The Sports Ministry

An Act of Parliament to harness sports for development, encourage and promote drug-free sports and recreation; to provide for the establishment of sports institutions, facilities, administration and management of sports in the country, and for connected purposes
The Department was established through a Presidential circular directive in 1987. Its mandate is drawn from the sessional paper No. 3 of 2005 on Sports Development, Sports Act No. 25 of 2013, the Constitution of Kenya and the Executive Order No. 30 of 2013. It is mandated to provide oversight authority on sports and recreation activities development in the country.
