Competition Schedule

Deaflympics, known worldwide as DEAFLYMPICS, is an international multi-sport event, organized by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD – International Committee of Sports for the Deaf). The Summer Deaflympics takes place every 4 years and is the oldest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.

The Mascot: Nino!

The following mascot was inspired by the ring-tailed coati, or Nasua nasua. An animal adapted to various habitats, from Colombia to the Rio Grande do Sul mountain range, in southern Brazil. For surviving in the most diverse places, the coati is considered an animal with great adaptability.

The hat present in the drawing represents the agricultural culture of the region, a symbol of the grape growers, who use it as protection from bad weather. Along with the red scarf that represents the gaucho culture of the region.

Travel to Caxias

The international reference airport is located in Porto Alegre / RS and is known as Salgado Filho International Airport POA, 120 km from Caxias do Sul, approximately 2h by road. It is possible to reach this airport with a direct flight from Portugal or other countries in Central America and the South. In the case of non direct flights, OC ask all participants take flight for São Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) or Rio de Janeiro Tom Jobim (GYG).

The local Hugo Cantergiani Regional Airport, in Caxias, do Sul, is dedicated just to domestic flight flow and has a high dependence on weather instability. Deaf athletes’ receptions and Covid Arrival Control will take place at Salgado Filho airport in Porto Alegre
