VALIDATION OF CRICKET KENYA CONSTITUTION
Attn: SPORTS EDITORS
The Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage Amb. (Dr.) Amina Mohamed has congratulated Cricket Kenya Stakeholders for validating the Cricket Kenya Constitution in a hybrid Stakeholders forum held earlier today and attended by over one hundred stakeholders. She has also thanked the Normalization Committee for the commitment, hard work and focus that led to the success.
The forum chaired by Cricket Normalization Committee Chairperson Justice (Rtd) Joyce Aluoch, deputised by Justice (Rtd) Alnasir Visram and witnessed by the International Cricket Council Representative Hon. Dr. Tavengwa Mukuhlani saw stakeholders unanimously adopt the new constitution with minor amendments. The Cabinet Secretary had earlier on in her remarks to the stakeholders urged them to consider the plight of players and set aside personal interests for the sake of the sport. “As you are all aware the players have suffered immense losses due to lack of contracts and income, the ladies’ team for example, has missed opportunities to participate in international competitions due to lack of activities at home, this should not have been allowed to continue happening. Most recently, Kenya’s Women’s Cricket team suffered a major blow on the international scene by being denied an opportunity to participate in ICC events because we are not playing enough league matches at home.” Amb. (Dr.) Amina Mohamed “The validation of the new constitution ushers in a new phase of Cricket in Kenya.“ said the Cabinet Secretary
“We thank the stakeholders for engaging, discussing openly, and reaching out to each other in the spirit of give and take. It is the best birthday gift I have received from the Cricket Stakeholders” said Justice Aluoch who is coincidentally celebrating her birthday today. “I thank the Cabinet Secretary for Sports for agreeing to establish the Normalization Committee, supporting the Committee throughout and engaging stakeholders to this very fruitful end. This marks a new era of welcoming Kenya back to the global arena of Cricket. ICC urges the stakeholders to continue with the same spirit in the next steps towards the elections.” Hon. Dr Mukuhlani ICC Representative.
“The Government will establish public Cricket facilities, continue supporting the National Teams and nurture Cricket talent through the Kenya Academy of Sports. All these can be best achieved with a functioning Federation. We are glad that the Cricket stakeholders have chosen the path of restoring glory in the Sport. Indeed, it is great birthday gift for Joyce Alouch and I who celebrate our birthdays in October.” Said the Cabinet Secretary.
