SPEECH BY AMB. (DR.) AMINA C. MOHAMED, EGH, CAV, CABINET SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF SPORTS, CULTURE, AND HERITAGE, ON THE FLAGGING OFF OF THE 2022 ARC EQUATOR RALLY ON 1ST APRIL, 2022, IN NAIVASHA
*Salutations*
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am greatly honoured to join you this evening and to officially flag off the 2022 Africa Rally Championship Equator Rally.
The rally promises an exceptional experience to the 23 participating drivers and a showcase magnificent display of skills and prowess for spectators along its route.
The hosting of this event reaffirms Kenya’s position as a motorsport destination of choice in the region, the continent, and the world.
Furthermore, its significance cannot be understated, coming just three months before we welcome the world to Kenya for the 2022 WRC Safari Rally.
To the Government, therefore, this is a yard stick to gauge our preparedness for the 2022 WRC Safari Rally as we work towards giving the world an exceptional rally experience.
I would like to thank the organisers of this event for the amount of work they have put in to deliver a safe, competitive, and action-packed event.
The presence of renowned local and regional rally drivers is also a stamp of approval for the proficiency and professionalism in the planning and execution of this competition, and the quality of the competition itself.
Beyond this, we are working to grow motorsport among our junior and women rally drivers by offering them the structural and technical support needed to enable them to compete at top level.
The exploits by young rally drivers like McRae Kimathi at the international stage are a clear pointer to the immense talent in the country, which if tapped early will make Kenya a formidable force in international motorsport.
As the Government, we will continue to support these events as we move to cement our place as the motorsport destination and a hub for motorsport talents.
In conclusion, I welcome you all to this spectacular event and wish you a safe and exciting 2022 Africa Rally Championship Equator Rally.
Thank You!
