TALKING POINTS FOR USE BY AMB. (DR.) AMINA. C. MOHAMED, EGH, CAV, CABINET SECRETARY FOR SPORTS, CULTURE AND HERITAGE DURING THE LAUNCH OF TORCH OF POSSIBILITIES BY ABSA, 28 TH FEBRUARY 2020

Ladies and Gentlemen

Thank ABSA for supporting Sports and Education making special reference to the Kenya Golf Open annual support provided by the Bank.

Recognise the central role of sports in empowering communities and enhancing healthcare. Call upon more corporate entities to join hands with the Ministry to grow sports and sporting talent.

Appreciate the elite athletes present and their commitment to this partnership which aims to construct ablution blocks in 40 primary schools and 66 computer centres across the country.

Congratulate them for being beacons of hope and inspiration to their communities and the people of Kenya, particularly the youth.

Recall the extremely urgent need to support sanitation in schools and mention the sanitation initiatives being undertaken by the Ministry of Education to make schools safer and more habitable environments.

Introduce the Kenya Academy of Sports and the Ministry’s Vision to partners with the Ministry of Education to create Centers of Excellence for Sport within education centres. Reference your discussions with FIFA to establish football academies in schools across the country.

Inform about the events taking place in Kenya this year; Kenya Golf Open (March), WRC Safari Rally (July), World Under 20 Championships (July) and the World Athletics Continental Tour (May) and call on the private sector to partner in delivering these events with the aim of making Kenya a global; sporting destination.

Applaud ABSA’s ‘force for good’ philosophy and note the monumental value that the corporate sector brings to a nation through purposeful and impacting business models.
