TRIBUTE TO THE LATE FORMER PRESIDENT H.E. MWAI KIBAKI C.G.H, PATRON OF THE KENYA GOLF UNION

On behalf of the Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Heritage and the Kenya Golf Federation I would like to take this opportunity to send our heartfelt condolences to the family of the Late Former President of the Republic of Kenya His Excellency Mwai Kibaki C.G.H.

The golfing fraternity in Kenya, Africa, and beyond are saddened by the demise of our Patron.

His Excellency Mwai Kibaki was an astute golfer and Patron of the Kenya Golf Union. He was a member of Muthaiga Golf Club from May 1, 1988. He played a major role in the development of golf in the country and through him, Kenya received many accolades in the sport of golf. His Excellency Mwai Kibaki was among five individuals who were members of the Kenya Golf Union Hall of Fame in 2016, the year of its inauguration. This honor was bestowed upon individuals who had done sterling work in popularizing, growing, and preserving golf in Kenya.

His Excellency was a golf icon as he faithfully officiated the Kenya Open golf tournaments. He deeply appreciated that Kenya had earned international recognition as a sporting nation due to the competitiveness, effort, and success of its sportsmen and women.

He was also impressed by the high caliber of golfing championships held in the country that gained recognition globally.

His Excellency was a big supporter of the Kenya Ladies Golf Union. Every year he sponsored the Ladies Invitation at Muthaiga Golf Club. He facilitated the Kenya Ladies Golf Union to participate in international tournaments which exposed our lady golfers to international golf standards.

His Excellency was encouraged by the Kenya Golf Union’s initiative through Junior Golf Foundation to introduce golf to school-going children. He believed strongly that this would contribute to the growth of world-class golf champions

As our golf patron, President Kibaki exemplified the excellence of golf, discipline, determination, hard work, punctuality, and philanthropy. His legacy of integrity and ethical leadership has a mark that will hopefully live on.

We will miss our Patron dearly.

May the soul of His Excellency Former President Mwai Kibaki Rest in Eternal Peace.

Amb. Dr. Amina Mohamed EGH CAV

Cabinet Secretary
